Overall purpose of role
  • To contribute to the software development for one or more applications / products across the detailed design, build and unit test phases of the lifecycle. 
  • To maintain a technical understanding of a component or sub-component within an application / product, providing support for technical queries, live incidents and problems. 
  • To ensure that the technical integrity and quality of the applications / products is maintained across their lifetime, contributing to the development of any technical changes being proposed 
  • To build knowledge of how technical strategies are defined to provide business solutions

Key Accountabilities: Technical Consultancy   (5%)
  • Review Technical Feasibility Studies (TFS) for projects that impact applications / products within domain, and assess potential impact.  
  • Review Advice and Guidance (A&G) documents and project Plan and Estimates (P&Es) that impact applications / products within domain, and assess potential impact.  
  • Solve software-related problems, providing analysis and recommendations as appropriate.  
  • Develop an awareness of new tools, processes and technical developments relevant to component area of expertise.

Requirements Gathering

Review business requirements to understand how system requirements fit within overall business solution. Challenge any requirements that are incomplete or do not provide sufficient clarity to support effective system development. Review requirements to ensure that all areas of functional and non-functional requirements (e.g. capacity, availability, response times, etc.) have been considered.  Support business clients in defining detailed 'testable' requirements. Understand technical constraints of live application / product, support business clients in understanding any requirement versus cost trade-offs. Technical Development  Application Management  Participate in technical implementation planning, ensuring that the integrity of live operations will be maintained. Support the handover of software into business-as-usual (BAU) operation, providing the relevant IT service teams with information and education relating to the system technology and function. Coordination and resolution of the Problem Management of system problems. Understand the various phases of the software development lifecycle. Undertake impact assessment of problem records against applications / products within domain.  Review test strategies to guarantee the quality of the delivered software assist in the diagnosis of system problems encountered during testing.


Person Specification
  • Knowledge and Expertise End-to-end software development lifecycle  
  • Software development methodologies, e.g. waterfall, agile
  • Awareness of leading-edge tools, techniques, services within IT 
  • Ability to interface with infrastructure and service management areas.

Technical Knowledge

Person Specification
You will need to have at least one of the following sets of Essential skills depending on whether you focus on iOS or Android.

Essential (iOS):
  • Solid knowledge in:  
  • IOS application development
  • XCode server & Jenkins  
  • Git  
  • iOS unit testing Essential (Android):  

Solid knowledge in:
  • Android application development 
  • Gradle & Jenkins 
  • Git 
  • Android unit testing
 
Desirable (iOS):
  • Strong knowledge of application security principals, java cryptography and secure coding techniques.
  • Knowledge of Swift
  • Knowledge of C/C++ 
  • Knowledge of HTML5, Angular, Ionic

Desirable (Android):
  • Strong knowledge of application security principals, java cryptography and secure coding techniques. 
  • Android NDK development, knowledge of C/C++  Knowledge of HTML5, Angular, Ionic
